“I am pleased to exhibit this group of paintings at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital. I have always felt the healing powers of art as a viewer and maker of paintings. Multiple scientific studies now show how exposure to beautiful art impacts our mind, body and spirit. When we view a painting we consider beautiful, an instantaneous release of dopamine sends feelings of love to our brain. When we respond to color relationships and recognize familiar patterns in paintings of flowers and landscape, we feel connected to the natural world. These types of images have been shown to be a calming influence, reducing stress and improving mood. I made these paintings specifically for the Healing Arts Program at Verdugo Hills hospital and am grateful for the opportunity to participate in such a wonderful program.”
